Portland, Ore. – September 14, 2017 – Kimera Systems today announced the first comprehension by Nigel™ – the company’s artificial general intelligence (AGI) technology that proactively helps its users by learning to understand them and perceive reality in the same way as them. Whatever Nigel learns from one user can be applied so as to help any other user. What’s more is that Nigel has contextual awareness and the ability to transfer learning from one domain to any other, meaning that Nigel gains more than just knowledge of particular tasks from users but also gains common sense which can proactively be applied to any user in any situation where it has value. One of the key differentiators between narrow AIs such as Cortana and Alexa and AGI lies in the technology’s ability to comprehend and to successfully transfer learning across domains.
In August 2016 Nigel was launched in a private beta with users selected from numerous locations throughout the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia. In June 2017, Kimera expanded the beta, opening it up to all Android users.
In creating Nigel, the Kimera Systems research team developed a mathematical model for comprehension which they named The Kylee Model. In summary, the model recognizes comprehension as a four step process – Observation, memorization, conceptualization, comprehension.
“Comprehension is a mathematical model derived from our general theory of intelligence”, said Mounir Shita, Kimera Systems’ founder & CEO. “It’s not just a big milestone, this achievement shows that the Nigel AGI technology is on its path towards human-level intelligence.”
Since August 2016 the company has continued to grow its user base and has reached a point where Nigel experiences approximately one million observations per day. Through these observations, the technology has begun to conceptualize what it has learned since August. On September 2nd, 2017 Nigel conceptualized information in which it had such a high confidence level it was able to proactively “connect the dots,” resulting in real comprehension. The steps the technology proactively took to reach this point conform to the company’s mathematical model for comprehension and demonstrate the AGI’s ability to employ common sense and reach conclusions without any human intervention whatsoever.
The results of the beta expansion confirm Nigel practices continuous learning to develop generalized comprehension, contrasting with narrow AIs which require huge amounts of predigested data and processing power to simply recognize patterns. The Nigel AGI technology has arrived decades earlier than industry experts and analysts predicted.
Kimera Systems’ YouTube Channel features several videos addressing the company’s approach to AGI, their general theory of intelligence as well as several use cases for Nigel in enterprise.
Android users may join the Nigel Beta.
